Google Suggestion Tool in drop down box
The only keyword tool you will ever need!
Have you realized that Google is the only keyword tool that you may ever need and have to use. Type a generic keyword and its drop down suggestion tool will show you other variations of the keyword you typed. This keywords which Google suggests are keywords which people actually searched, therefore this is the most accurate and updated that you can get.
See the image above how a generic keyword like "dogs" will give you the Google suggestions on the possible variations of that keyword. From here, you can choose a sub-variation and see what other second level variation Google will suggest. You will be able to build a linkwheel of all the possible variations of keywords deeper than the original generic keyword like "dogs".
You can even get the number of competition that you will encounter from other websites after you have clicked the search on each keyword as shown in the image below for the keyword "dogs for sale".

Other Google suggestions at the bottom of the page
You will also see other suggestions by Google at the bottom of the first page of your search result. See image below.
This would help you find the keywords that are less competition. For me, we should strive for less competition keywords and dominate them because they are easier to dominate or strive to be at the first page of search results. They may be fewer searches for them but if we figure to be at the top of those searches, then it is more likely that people coming from search engine would be directed to our websites, articles, blogs or hubs.
With information from Google search, you will have all the keywords that you need for your SEO campaign. No need for expensive keyword analysis tool, just get it straight from Google itself.

As you can see above, the keyword and the number of search results are shown. So, if you have a blog or hubpages discussing anything about dogs, you can also create an account with other blogging and article platforms like wordpress, blogger, tumblr, squidoo, xomba and others.
You can use the other keyword suggestions in the Google Search. If for example, you create articles on blogger.com for the keyword dogs breed and you want an anchor text with this keyword (dogs breed or dogs breeds) to point to your blog on dogs, such would increase your value in the eyes of Google. In this case, you should write naturally, but you could also analyze the keywords and the number of search results. Go to Google trends to see how many searches are done for "dogs breed" and "dogs breeds". If the number of searches are fairly the same, then you should focus more on the keyword "dogs breeds" because the search results is less therefore lesser competition and easier to dominate.
I also suggest that you take a look at a sub-topic of dogs, they may be better as a blog topic and your main topic and the center page of your linkwheel because they are narrower niches and easier to focus on. Focusing on a very general topic like "dogs" would be very hard since there are a lot of topics that can be discussed and more competitors.
