Creating a Facebook Ad

In order to use Facebook in your marketing or advertisement campaign, you have to create a Facebook Ad.

Facebook Ads can be paid based on 1) number of impressions that was generated for your ad or 2) clicks made on your ads by other Facebook users.

In your Facebook profile page, you can see the "Create an Ad" link at the top of the right sidebar. You can see actual ads below the "Create an Ad" link.

This ads can either be on a per thousand impression basis or pay per click. Facebook charges 0.02 US dollars per thousand impressions. Depending on your target country, interest, age groups and other settings you have for your ad, Facebook can automatically estimate the number of impressions.

If you want to pay only for actual clicks on your ads, choose pay per click instead of impression based payment. Facebook can also estimate for you if you want to, the amount you have to pay per click in order for your ad to be competitive.

Some ads are approved by the Facebook system immediately while others are tagged as "Pending Review".

3 Steps in creating a Facebook Ad

1. Design your ad - this is where you determine the destination URL, title, body text and upload an image.

2. Targeting - this is one of the greatest advantage of a Facebook ad over google adwords. In the Targeting section, you can set the Location by country which immediately refreshes the Estimated reach per at the right sidebar. After Location, you can set the age, sex, interested in, languages, likes and interests, education and work and; connections on facebook. Therefore, you can target your ad to your desired viewers. So, if your ad is linked to your website or blog, you have a highly targetted traffic which would generate you more pageviews, ad clicks, or affiliate sales.

3. Campaigns and Pricing - it is here where you put your campaign name or ad name.  You also set your daily budget, ad schedule and you choose whether to pay per 1,000 impressions or per click.  If you choose per click, I suggest you bid using Facebook's suggested bid mode which is shown in a certain rage.  If for example your maximum bid is 0.15 USD, you still likely pay less because your maximum bid will only be used if other advertisers bid are high.

After setting everything you can click "Place Order" or "Review Ad".  You can only use credit card to pay for Facebook ads as of this writing.
